GNW Guns and Generals

So second of the posts from my recent delivery of figures by the basing department and we have some smaller projects to share.

The first of these is my third Saxon Gun and Crew, this time a field piece. I do like the black painted guns with yellow metal work. This gives me a Positional Gun, a light gun and a field gun. Probably plenty for the two Brigades I plan, but dont hold me to that! Figures and gun by Ebor Miniatures.

We then have another Swedish General, this is the third of the Ebor Swedish Generals and probably my favourite.

Lastly a Saxon General, this is one of the old foundry range but is still a realty nice figure. I think the horse has aged particularly well.

Next I have a regiment of mounted Cossacks, probably drop a post on these at the weekend.

Thanks for reading.

Another Great Northern War Workbench

Hi

A pretty successful week with painting so I thought I might share some progress. A mix of Swedes and Cossacks with a few Saxons too

Firstly the gun crew for the Saxon gun completed on the last workbench post. Ebor figures, takes me to 3 Saxon guns, one per brigade should be plenty..
Cossack foot! Really enjoying doing these, the below are all Foundry by Mark Copplestone and full of character. I intend to do two battalions of foot Cossacks.
The command for my next unit of Swedes, in this case the Guard Grenadiers.
And the command for my fourth unit of Life Guard, just the other 15 to paint for this unit! Its a start.
The next batch of Guard Grenadiers for the Swedes, Ebor figures , just another 5 to finish this unit.
A Swedish Brigadier, not decided who this is yet, but I noce figure pointing the way forward to the enemy, again Ebor.

This next chap is a Saxon General, a rather old casting from Foundry but still pretty serviceable.
Then back to the foot Cossacks, poor photography sorry, rushed them through to add to this post. Foundry again, the priest had a minor conversion to add what is a very nice looking flag I feel.

Foot Cossacks from TAG (The Assault Group) nice figures that fir in well with the foundry ones.
And finally TAG mounted Cossacks, the photography doesn't really do these figures justice, I will do better when I have them as a finished unit, promise!

Next on the workbench more Cossacks, I finished horses for the next 6 mounted which will give me my third mounted unit of Cossack, then a couple more dismounted should see the first battalion of those complete too.

I will update the blog with another battalion of Saxons at the weekend so watch this space.

Cheers.

Swedish Casulaties and Artillery GNW

Hi, basing department has finished a few bits for me before returning to University. Firstly my third Swedish Gun and crew. This is actually the standard Eborlight gun with 4 crew left over from the previous guns. I like to think the gunner pointing at the officer is shouting "Its his fault we missed!"

The casualties are ideal for Black Powder casualty Markers. Ideally I will end up with one per unit so will need about 12 eventually. I particularly like the body draped over the drum, this is a lovely sculpt.

That's it for the moment, I have a stack of Swedes, Russians and Saxons on the workbench and I am looking forward to the release of Warfare Miniatures Swedish Cavalry over the coming weeks.

The basing department has taken 3 units of Polish cavalry with her back to York so hopefully see those finished upon her return.

Thanks for reading.

Saxon Artillery and first two brigades of Swedes

Hi

Thought I would get a cheeky post in before disappearing on holiday for 3 weeks.

The basing department has finished some Saxon artillery before disappearing off around Europe. A medium gun and a light gun. Figures and medium gun are Ebor, light gun is from Dixon Miniatures.

Saxon guns were painted black with yellow metal work.

I had two figures left over so added an infantry officer painted a suitable colour. I particularly like the idea of the officer and gunner shouting at each other over the barrel.

Then we have the first two brigades, each brigade has three battalions, a gun and is led by its own General.

So that's it from me for three weeks. See you soon!

Swedish Artillery

Basing department has returned to Uni but has left me with a couple of units based to share with you.

First up is my first Great Northern War Artillery, a Swedish Gun and crew from Ebor Miniatures. Really lovely figures especially the officer

They come in a pack of 6 crew but I reckon 4 is plenty so the 4 spares from my two crews will make an extra crew for a third gun.

Close up of Officer and Gunner.

The gun carriage was blue faced yellow and I decided that a blue/grey would be a better fit dry brushed pale grey to give a more weathered effect. The yellow is a faded sand colour.

The crew in grey faced blue have a very simple but elegant uniform. Quick and Easy to paint. This is a field gun and probably the largest gun I will do for the Swedes, artillery found it difficult to keep up with the army who relied on aggressive shock action in combat, only light pieces really stood a chance unless the Swedes were on the defensive.

Next up is likely to be either my third Swedish foot battalion or my first Saxon foot.
